How to make a sand dune:
There are three key elements needed to make a sand dune.
1) Sand: The three main ingredients that make up Lake Michigan sand are granite, magnetite and pheldsphar.
2) Wind: The wind coming off lake Michigan blew the sand upwards which made the dunes larger.
3) Vegetation: Vegetation such as marram grass hold the sand in place, creating a dune.
The Great Lakes and The Dunes
The effect the great lakes have on the dunes of Rosy Mound is that they provide wind to keep the sand rising on the dune and the water and waves have a weathering/erosion on the beach.
