When we first arrived at Rosy Mound, it didn’t look like much.  But when we got to the dune area, it looked very interesting.  We started our day talking to Chip about how the dunes were made and what he did for a living. Then he took us down to the shoreline and pointed out many different types of wildlife and interesting facts about the monarch butterfly.  We then went our separate ways and our group went for a walk.  We learned about the different types of succession shown at Rosy Mound. After that we had our lunch and headed back to the bus.  Throughout the  field trip we took notes on everything we learned so we could use them for this project. On the bus we compared notes within our group to get the best notes possible.

People should definantly protect the dunes because they are the only one of their kind in the world and lots of special and unique organisms live there. If you take away the dunes then a lot of animals unique to the dunes will die.

From going to Rosy Mound, we learned a lot of neat facts about dunes. An example would be why marram grass is so important and about succession. We learned how long it takes to get a full forest on a dune. We learned how succession is a process of which plants are being replaced by other plants.
